Abstract :Our country which has suitable areas for the growth of various culture plants from geographical and climatological aspects, also offer land for some types of oil plants. Among them safflower which was cultivated in limited parts of the country since 1940s is gradually diminishing in recent years. In 1980s it has fallen below the long term averages has even decreased since 1990s.Safflower was cultured in 7 or 8 provinces in the old days, but now it is cultured only in Balıkesir which supplies 80-85 percent of country’s production, and in İsparta and Kütahya. Turkey’s annual safflower production is 50 to 60 tons in recent years.
