Abstract :„Dem Freunde auch das Innerste aufzuschließen“ Limits of Sincerity in Tiecks Der blonde Eckbert My paper argues that Ludwig Tiecks short text Der blonde Eckbert reflects upon the 18th century ideal of sincerity and shows its limits in the light of the new ideal of authenticity. When the underlying model of subjectivity erodes and discards ethical foundations of sincerity, the attempt of generating social bonding and friendship through sincerity will lead to a catastrophe.
