Reliability and validity of the Arabic family planning scale of attitude in Syrian refugees: A methodological study

Abstract :Objective: Protecting and improving the health of disadvantaged groups such as refugees is a crucial issue for global health. This study aims to test the validity and reliability of the Family Planning Attitude Scale (FPAS) in Arabic refuges. Methods: The study has descriptive and methodological research. 320 women were included in the study. Research data were collected using the Personal Information Survey and the FPAS. The validity and reliability of the scale were tested. The scale psychometric evaluation was assessed using construct validity, test-retest, internal consistency analyses, and item-total score correlation coefficients. Construct validity, test-retest, internal consistency analysis and item-total score correlation were used in the evaluation of the scale. Results: In the validity and reliability analysis, there was consistence between expert opinions, the Content Validity Index (CVI) was 0.85 on the basis of the scale, and in the construct validity analysis of the scale, the five-factor structure of 29 items explaining 57.62% of the total variance was acceptable; It was determined that the internal consistency reliability was 0.89, and the item-total score correlation value was between 0.30 and 0.57. According to the test-retest result, there was a high positive and significant correlation between the first and second application of the scale (r= 0.86; p= 0.000). The Cronbach’s alpha correlation coefficient of the Arabic version of the FPAS was 0.90. Conclusion: Psychometric indicators revealed that the Arabic version Family Planning Attitude Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool for refugee women speaking Arabic.
