Abstract :The purpose of this study was to determine possible causes of contamination and assess the sediment quality of the Karasu Stream in Sinop Province. Between April and September 2023, sediment samples were collected from three distinct locations and their heavy metal concentrations was examined. Results show that human activities, especially pollution sources from residential areas, have a major impact on the stream\\\'s water quality. Station 2, which is located near densely populated areas, had the greatest quantities of nutrients, organic contaminants, and heavy metals. On the other hand, Station 1, which is close to the stream\\\'s source and far from human habitation, had the lowest amounts, most likely as a result of the natural environment. While Ni indicated considerable pollution and enrichment at several sites, overall heavy metal contamination was modest and did not pose an ecological risk, according to pollution indices (Cf, Cd, mCd, EF, and Igeo). The study\\\'s findings highlight the necessity of taking the required actions to preserve and enhance Karasu Stream\\\'s water quality.
