Abstract :Objective: The pre-discharge period for individuals undergoing invasive cardiac procedures offers healthcare professionals an important opportunity to encourage individuals to quit smoking. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Transtheoretical Model-based interventions implemented via telenursing on smoking cessation in individuals undergoing coronary angiography or cardiac surgery. Methods: The study was conducted in a quasi-experimental design at a cardiology hospital in Istanbul (March-November 2021). The sample consisted of 120 adults–60 in the experimental group and 60 controls–who had undergone coronary angiography or cardiac surgery. Transtheoretical model-based smoking cessation attempts were applied to the experimental group with tele-nursing for three months. Data were collected by means of a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Fagerström Nicotine Dependence Scale, and the self-efficacy and decisional balance constructs of the Transtheoretical Model. Ethical approval was obtained before starting the study. Descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis Analysis of Variance were used in the data analysis. Results: Except for weight control, the other sub-dimension scores of the self-efficacy scale were found to be significantly higher in the experimental group compared to the control group (P<.05). Compared to the controls, the scores of the experimental group on the pros of smoking scale were lower, and higher in the cons scale (P<,05). The experimental group progressed more than the control group in the stages of change (P<.05). Conclusion: TTM-based telenursing was found to be effective in promoting smoking cessation among individuals undergoing coronary angiography or cardiac surgery. Keywords : hemşirelik, transteorik model, tele sağlık, sigara, koroner arter hastalığı
