Abstract :The aim of this study was to examine the effects of training with a pointer racket—a wooden racket with a narrow hitting surface, commonly known as a “spoon racket”—on various tennis performance parameters. Specifically, the research evaluated its influence on hand-eye coordination, groundstroke level of play, stroke velocity, stroke heaviness, spin level, cycle level, and sweet spot performance, compared to training with a normal racket. The study lasted six weeks and included pre- and post-test measurements. A total of 30 university students (15 male, 15 female; mean age = 21.47 years; mean height = 172.07 cm; mean weight = 68.13 kg) participated. Training sessions were conducted three days per week, each lasting 90 minutes. Both the experimental and control groups performed the same training program; however, the experimental group used the pointer racket for 30 minutes of each session, while the control group used a normal racket. To analyze the data, dependent sample t-tests were applied for within-group comparisons, and independent sample t-tests were used to determine differences between groups. Significant improvements were observed in both groups for game level, stroke velocity, and stroke heaviness in repeated measures. Between-group comparisons showed no significant differences in pre-test results; however, post-test results revealed significant advantages in favor of the experimental group. Additionally, only the experimental group showed significant increases in hand-eye coordination and sweet spot performance. In conclusion, training with a pointer racket significantly enhances hand-eye coordination, groundstroke level, stroke velocity, stroke heaviness, and sweet spot performance among individuals with ITN groundstroke scores below the medium level.
