Abstract :Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) is defined by three different variants: non-fluent/agrammatic variant; semantic variant and logopenic variant. Each variant leads to the emergence of different characteristic language and speech features. This narrative review aims to present speech and language assessment methods and evidence-based intervention methods used in individuals with PPA. The narrative review method was used in this study. A literature review was conducted on speech and language assessment and interventions in individuals with PPA. In the evaluation of PPA; history taking; language assessment; use of differential diagnostic tools; cognitive-linguistic assessment; assessment of single word comprehension and person/object knowledge; assessment of motor speech and fluency; syntax; written language and cognitive communication skills are important. Interventions include speech and language therapy; pharmacological interventions; cognitive rehabilitation; and supportive care. The speech and language therapy process is very important for PPA and may include restorative and compensatory therapy approaches for the identified disorders. In addition; alternative and supportive communication methods and Communication Partner Training approaches are used to support existing skills. This review shows that there are insufficient assessment and therapy batteries for PPA in Turkey. In order to increase the effectiveness of intervention and ensure access to services for individuals with PPA; it is thought that it would be effective to raise awareness about the potential benefits of speech and language therapy for PPA and to develop evidence-based test batteries and intervention methods for the assessment and intervention of PPA.
