Abstract :This research examines the interaction between humans and nature within the framework of an action research study implemented with 31 middle school students in Istanbul during the 2024–2025 school year. The purpose was to increase students’ environmental awareness and encourage responsible attitudes toward protecting nature. The research was carried out over five weeks with activity-based methods, including a documentary task on living and non-living beings, a jigsaw activity on the Earth’s layers, an aquarium activity to examine human–nature interactions, a field trip to an arboretum, and a composting activity. Data were collected using pre- and post-tests, student diaries, and the researcher’s diary. Quantitative findings showed notable improvement in students’ knowledge of concepts, the Earth’s layers, and environmental issues. Qualitative results indicated that students became more attentive to biodiversity, corrected misconceptions, and developed positive attitudes toward sustainable practices. The arboretum trip provided a direct connection with nature, while composting helped students understand the value of recycling waste. Reflections revealed that experiential and student-centered learning methods foster deeper engagement and lasting awareness compared to traditional approaches. The study concludes that activity-based environmental education can effectively build ecological consciousness and recommends integrating such approaches into curricula to promote sustainable behaviors among young learners. Keywords : doğa, etkinlik, insan
