Abstract :Floransa konsili ile ilgili meselelerin gündemde olduğu bir sırada İstanbul`da bulunan Katolik rahip Bartholemaeus de Jano, “Türklerin Zalimliği Üzerine” başlıklı bir mektup yazar. Yazar, Sartianolu Alberto`ya gönderdiği bu mektubunda II. Murad`ın Balkanlardaki faaliyetlerinden genel olarak bahsederek, Türklerin bölgedeki durumuna ışık tutar. Yazar aynı zamanda Türklerin eğer durdurulmazlarsa Avrupalıların başına daha büyük gaileler açacağından bahisle Türklere karşı bir Haçlı seferi ilan edilmesi lüzumuna değinir. Bu arada yazar Türk saldırıları karşısında duyulan umumi korkuyu ve psikolojik durumu da gösterir ifadeler kullanır. Bazı satırlarda Tanrı`ya sitemde bulunmaktan çekinmeyen yazar sözü Tanrı`yı eleştiri boyutuna da getirir. Bunun yanı sıra mektupta Türklerin devşirme sisteminden de bahsedilir. İlgili satırlarda yazar küçük ve genç erkeklerin Müslümanlaştırılarak Hıristiyanlarla mücadele eder hale geldiklerinden yine sitemle değinerek bu durum karşısında ellerinden hiçbir şey gelmediğini acizane kelimelerle dile getirir. BARTHOLOMAEUS DE JANO`S LETTER ABOUT TURKS DATED 1438 A Catholic priest Bartholemaeus de Jano, who had been in İstanbul during the time in which the issues about consul of Florence was on the agenda, wrote a letter titled “On the cruelty of Turks”. The author gives information about the activities of Turks in that region by talking, generally, about the activities of Murad II in that letter which he sends to Alberto of Sartiano. He, at the same time, refers to the necessity of the declaration of a crusade because if the Turks would not be stopped they could cause problems for Europeans. In the meantime, he uses expressions which show the fear and psychology felt as a result of the attacks of Turks. The author who does not hesitate to expostulate the God comes to a point that he criticizes the God. Apart from that, the Devshirme System of Turks is also mentioned in the letter. In the lines related to that, he reproachfully mentions that little and young boys are being Islamized and are being grown in a manner that they could struggle against Christians.
