Abstract :Bu çalışma, Osmanlılara ait saltanatın 1 Ekim 1922`de kaldırılmasından itibaren basında yeni Türk Devleti`nin anayasasına dair fikirlerin ortaya konduğu esnada devletin ismi ile ilgili gündeme gelen tartışmalarla ilgilidir.  Eylül-Ekim 1923`de, çok kısa süreli yaşanacak olan bu tartışmanın bir yandan varlığını diğer taraftan neler yaşandığını meydana çıkarma amacındadır. Böylelikle tartışılan isimler üzerinden yeni rejimin özelliği hakkında aydınların, gazetecilerin düşünceleri de ortaya çıkmış olacaktır. Özellikle isimlendirme tartışmaları sırasında geçen Halk ibaresi, bu incelemenin esas üzerinde durduğu husustur. Çalışma temel olarak Türk basınında çıkan yazılara dayanmaktadır. Bununla birlikte döneme dair hatıralar ve TBMM zabıtları yeri geldiğinde kullanılmıştır DEBATES ABOUT THE NAME OF NEW TURKISH STATE IN TURKISH PRESS insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 1923); This study is related to the debates about the name of new Turkish state, experienced after the abolishment of Ottoman Sultanate on 1 October 1922 and during the discussion of ideas about new constitution in press. The discussion took place in September-October 1923 for a short while, and the study aimed to prove the existence of the discussion and what occurred during the discussion. In this way, the names that were discussed will reveal the ideas of intellectuals and journalists about the features of the new regime. Especially the phrase “the people” is the main concern that this investigation focused on.  This study basically relies upon the articles in Turkish press. However, the memories and the parliamentary records were also used when necessary
