Abstract :Agriculture is a production sector that has an important place in economies and social life as it provides both food to societies and input to the industry. Due to its importance, internal structure problems and production conditions, This production sector is subject to state interferences and directives. these directives and interferences of the government have a significant impact on the structure and development of the agricultural sector. When we look in Türkiye, it is seen that the first breaking point in the agricultural sector and the state\\\'s support policies towards the agricultural sector is the year 1980 and the decisions of January 24, 1980. In sector second breaking point time is 1990s. These two time- periods is important for agriculture sector in Türkiye. Therefore, in this study, the situation of the agricultural sector in Türkiye in the 1990s and 2000s will be investigated, with reference to the 1980s. The first part of the article focuses on the general characteristics and production conditions of the agricultural sector. Then, the structure and specific conditions of the agricultural sector in Türkiye were examined. In the second part of the article, economic policies aimed at the agricultural sector in Türkiye were analyzed by comparing them with the policies followed in the EU, USA and OECD countries. It seems that the internal structure problems of the agricultural sector in Turkey and the policy implications of the long-term public resource-expenditure imbalance in the economy are the most important obstacles to the development of the sector.
