Abstract :In t h is paper, we present e x periences o f Central B a n k o f T u r k e y i n c o m p il i ing and de v e lop i n g a House Price Index (HPI). HPI, which is co n s tructed by u sing the m e t hod of “ S tr atified Med i a n Price”, covers all houses s ub ject to loan approvals a ll over the c ount r y . W e focus on w h y developi n g a h o use price i n d ex for Tur k e y was ne e d ed, sources and cover a g e of the in d ex, reasons behind i m p l ementing the stra t ified median price appr o ach, applic a tion of s t rat i fication and weighting p rocedures in build i ng the in d ex. In additi o n , m e tho d of de v elo p ing a n e w- h ousing p r i c e index is c o m p il e d on t h e basis of 26 N U TS 2 regions are revi e w e d .
