Abstract :This article aims to review the literature on Ottoman banking system. The studies mentioned in this study were grouped as a); studies published in foreign languages and have not yet been translated into Turkish b); studies published in Turkish c); studies that were already translated into Turkish. The recent studies have certainly enriched the literature on Ottoman banking system. That the archives of the Ottoman Bank has been opened for academic research and that grants were began to be given for the academic studies on financial history will no doubt increase the academic concern for the field. In order to grasp the issue wholly, the present study concludes by emphasizing the need to utilize archival sources of Ottoman Empire both in Turkey and abroad.
