Assessing the recreational potential of Lake Eğirdir and its surroundings land use recommendations based on the Gülez Method

Abstract :This study aims to assess the recreational potential of Lake Eğirdir and its surroundings in Isparta province and to develop land use recommendations for more efficient use of these areas. The “Forest Recreation Potential Determination” method, developed by Gülez (1990), was used in the study. Various criteria were evaluated in this method, including landscape value, climate value, accessibility, recreational facilities, and adverse factors. Within the scope of the study, the diversity of recreational activities and environmental factors were analyzed by considering the natural resource values (e.g., water body presence, vegetation structure, scenic quality) and ecosystem characteristics (e.g., habitat diversity and ecological sensitivity) of the lake and its surroundings. As a result of the study, the recreational potential of Lake Eğirdir and its surroundings was determined to be “Very High” with a score of 76%. Landscape value and climate value received higher scores than other criteria, while accessibility received lower scores. Negative factors such as water pollution and lack of security were also identified. The study resulted in recommendations for improving transportation infrastructure, improving water quality, increasing safety measures, developing sustainable water management practices, developing visitor management plans, ensuring local community participation, integrating digital technologies, and diversifying recreational activities. This study is expected to contribute to sustainable tourism and recreation planning for Lake Eğirdir and its surrounding area.
