A Sufi Poem from a Tragic Story (Example of Feqîyê Teyran's Şêxê Sen’ani Poem)

Abstract :Sufi poets have resorted to tragic stories to convey Sufi ideas, and one of these stories is Sheikh Sen\\\'an. In the story, a sheikh falls in love with a Christian girl, makes a choice between his Islamic faith and his love, and renounces his religion. This story was first written as a Sufi poem by Ferîdüddin Attâr and later rewritten by poets who were influenced by this story and Attâr\\\'s poem, one of them being Fakî-yi Teyrân. This study focuses on Feqîyê Teyran\\\'s poem Şêxê Sen\\\'anî from a Sufi and tragic perspective. Sufism and tragedy cannot agree on the meaning of life and human beings. This study shows that Feqîyê Teyran a representative of the Sufi tradition, like his predecessors, transformed the famous tragic story of the Islamic world and reversed the tragic thesis that ‘man is a tragic being’. In this poem, Feqîyê Teyran triumphs over the destruction and tragic death of man by presenting hope, resurrection, union with God and happiness after death. Thus, he uses Sufism as a way out of the tragic and a way to reverse it. In this way, it offers a solution against the terrible death.
