EXAMINATION OF SELF-REGULATION LEVELS OF PRESCHOOL CHILDREN WITH RESPECT TO MOTHER AND FATHER ATTITUDES

Abstract :The aim of this study is to observe preschool period children’s self-regulation levels with respect to mother and father attitudes. The research study group includes 4-6 year old 106 children who are enrolled in a preschool education institution in İstanbul affiliated with the Ministry of National Education and their parents (153 mothers-153 fathers). The Personal Information Form, Children’s Independent Learning Development Checklist (3-5 Years) and Mother-Father Attitudes Scales (4-12 Years) were used in the research. Research findings prove that there isn’t a significant relationship between mother and fathers’ desired attitudes and independent learning behaviours of their preschool children; it was determined that there is a significant negative association between mother and fathers’ undesired attitudes and independent learning behaviours of their children. It was observed that mother and fathers’ desired attitudes do not predict independent learning behaviours of their preschool period children. In addition, it was observed that mother and fathers’ undesired attitudes predict independent learning behaviours of their preschool period children. Research findings indicate that the desired attitudes of the two parents are not related to the independent learning behaviours of the children, but the undesired attitudes are.
