Abstract :This conceptual study seeks to explore the intricate and multidimensional relationship between maritime culture and archaeotourism through a focused examination of the Ancient City of Knidos, a historically significant settlement strategically situated at the intersection of the Aegean and Mediterranean civilizations. Owing to its favorable geographical position and its highly developed harbor infrastructure, Knidos played a prominent role as a maritime trade hub during antiquity. In the present day, the site continues to draw scholarly and touristic attention, largely due to the abundance of its tangible and intangible maritime cultural heritage. When considered within the framework of archaeotourism, this heritage presents considerable potential not only for preserving cultural identity but also for generating socio-economic benefits and promoting sustainable development at the regional level. In addition, the paper briefly examines various archaeotourism practices in Turkey, highlighting how similar archaeological sites have been integrated into cultural tourism strategies. By comparing these practices, the paper evaluates the current limitations and future potential of Knidos in becoming a model destination for thematic tourism grounded in maritime culture and archaeology. Ultimately, the study proposes a conceptual model that underscores the synergy between heritage preservation and thematic tourism development. This model emphasizes the need for sustainable visitor management, community participation, digital innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration to fully realize the potential of Knidos as a dynamic example of how maritime culture can be meaningfully integrated into archaeotourism policy and practice.
