Çimen BAYBURTLU, Vildan ERTÜRK, Leyla ULUSMAN Distinction between art and craft has been debated since the 18th century. Craft has been left as handcraft while art has been superseded as original and unique, requiring creativity. Jewelry Design was mentioned only after the Industrial Revolution and could then be considered as an art discipline. Interdisciplinary Art is an approach that lifts the boundaries between art branches and provides an artistic interaction with a new aesthetic meaning. This emphasizes the multifaceted and complex nature of art and the inevitability interaction of artists. In the early 1950’s and 1960’s, after Bauhaus, as the artist-craftsman model was developed there was also a jewelry design moment. Jewelry of famous artists of this period, or jewelry inspired by these artists, have covered the gap between art and craft. Most of these works are artists` own designs. On the other hand, a different design area has been created by adapting the works of the artists. In the field study, the works of celebrated artists and their corresponding jewelry designs were examined and its creative effect on the education of the jewelry designers was acknowledged. In this respect a study aiming the recognition and introduction of the painters as well as the unique designs of the students has been held in Marmara University, Istanbul with the Jewelry Technology and Design Students. Since 2012, in the Applied Jewelry Design and Applied Object Design courses students were asked to produce jewelry inspired by Turkish Painters of various periods. This project has resulted very successfully. The works of painters were adapted to jewelry and these artifacts have been featured in international exhibitions and have drawn a high attraction
