Examination of Graduate Theses Made in Turkey on Problems Encountered in Social Studies Teaching

Abstract :The aim of the study is to examine postgraduate theses on the problems encountered in teaching Social Studies in Türkiye.This research is a qualitative research using the document analysis model.The research examined theses on the problems encountered in teaching Social Studies in Türkiye between the years 1997-2024.In this context, 59 postgraduate theses were examined.The scope of these theses consists of 55 master\\\'s and 4 doctoral theses.The theses examined in the study were accessed via the internet.In this context, a search was conducted using the keywords \\\"Social Studies\\\" and \\\"Problems Encountered in Social Studies\\\" via the YÖK National Thesis Center and Google Scholar.Theses in the field of Social Studies and Social Studies Education were evaluated through document analysis in terms of year, type of research, research method, subject areas, selected sample, sample size, data collection tools, distribution by universities, data analysis methods and possible solutions to these problems. According to the findings obtained in the study, the most theses on this subject were made in 2006 and 2022.It was determined that quantitative and qualitative research methods were used equally. The most theses were made in Konya Selçuk University and Atatürk University.The survey was used as the most data collection tool. It was also determined that the most discussed problem and solution proposal was teacher-based.
