Abstract :Platon’un retorik anlayışını ele alacağımız bu makalede, ilk olarak retorik kelimesinin kısaca etimolojisine değinip özellikle bu anlamda retoriğin doğuşuyla ilişkisinde sofistlere değinerek Platon’un sofistik retoriğe yöneltmiş olduğu eleştirilere yer vereceğiz. İkinci olarak, Platon Devlet adlı eseri ve Gorgias diyaloğunda retoriğe karşı olan sert tutumunu, Phaidros diyaloğunda biraz daha yumuşatacaktır. Bu tutum değişikliğini ele alacağız.
