Effect of urinary incontinence on the quality of life of patients in postmenopausal age group who applied to the urogynecology policlinic

Abstract :Introduction: Urinary incontinence is a common health problem in women population. In this study, we evaluated the urinary incontinance risk factors and its  effect on the quality of life of the postmenuposal women applying to Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Education and Training Hospital Urogynecology outpatient  clinic with urinary incontinance.  Materials and Method: Our study is cross-sectional and retrospective study which included 139  postmenuposal patients who applied to the outpatient urogynocology clinic with the complaints  of urinary incontinance between January 2003-April 2013. We  performed UDI-6 and 7 questioned IIQ-7 life quality quessionare form  to the patients who were included in the study. Results : The mean age of 139 postmenopausal women with urinary incontinance was 57.19  ± 9. Body  mass index increase insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p> 0.05);, duration of menopause insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p> 0.05);, the number of nocturia insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p> 0.05);  and night-time wetting insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p <0.005);, making birth insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p> 0.05);, abortion insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p> 0.05);, hypertension insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p <0.05);  as well as some chronic diseases, medication use insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p <0.05); did not cause a change in the quality of  life in postmenopausal women with urinary incontinance. We found that the quality of life was significantly affected in the group with sudden urgency when compared with the group of patients who did not have urgency complaint insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p<0,005);. Conclusion: Quality of life deteriorates, especially psychosocial health, in patients with urinary incontinence. Regardless of the severity of the urinary incontinence that is shown objectively, the quality of  life is negatively affected.
