Abstract :Tagore's long poetic career started with romantic poems in which love and nature are celebrated as two major sources of creative joy. With World War I, however, his work took on a modernist character, reflecting a new sense of doubt and uncertainty about the whole Western civilization. Nevertheless, he did not lose faith completely in Man's ability to create a world worth living in.
