Abstract :The aim of this research is to examine the university idea of the German philosopher Karl Jaspers. In this study, it is aimed to bring to the agenda the basic ideas that need to be taken into consideration about the university with the ideas put forward by the philosopher and to contribute to the literature in the field of higher education.Philosopher Karl Jaspers places human at the center of his philosophy. He believes that the desire to know is included in human nature and considers that the search for truth guided by this desire can only be continued in a free institution such as a university, which is universal in nature, which includes science and philosophy, where communication is inevitable and where research is a fundamental activity. According to Jaspers, the search for truth is the founding idea of the university. In this context, this study aims to reveal how Jaspers relates the idea of the search for truth, which he places at the foundation of the university, to the issues of science, philosophy, research, education, teaching, academic freedom, the philosophy faculty proposal, and intellectual aristocracy that he addresses regarding the university. According to the information obtained, Jaspers’s fundamental idea of “searching for truth” is closely related to all the issues he addresses regarding the university. The search for truth is an idea that shapes all of these issues. In addition, since these issues are based on this idea, they constitute a meaningful whole and a well-structured university idea within themselves. Keywords : Eğitim Felsefesi, Hakikat Arayışı, Karl Jaspers, The Idea of the University, Yükseköğretim
