The influence of process parameters on the formation of Al coating on steel by planetary ball-milling

Abstract :The effect of milling time, ball/powder ratio, and milling speed of planetary ball-mıllıng process on coating thickness was investigated by central composite design. The interaction effects of the factors were determined through Analysis of Variance insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(ANOVA);. The regression model was developed for evaluatıng the coating thickness. A Scanning Electron Microscopy insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(SEM); was used for measurıng the coating thickness. The results show that the ball/powder ratio was the most significant factor to maximize the coating thickness. The maximum coating thickness of 164 µm was succeed at a milling speed of 400 rpm, ball-to-powder ratio of 15:1 and milling time of 8 h. Although minimum coating thickness of 7 µm was attained at a milling speed of 200 rpm and ball/powder ratio of 5:1.
