The impacts of climate change on water resources and its effect on food security in Nigeria

Abstract :This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of residents in the Taraba region of Nigeria on the impacts of climate change on water resources and its effect on food security. Respondents were asked to indicate their level of agreement with a series of statements related to these issues. The results of the study showed that a majority of respondents strongly agreed or agreed that climate change is affecting water resources in the region (75% total) and that water scarcity is impacting food security (80% total). However, respondents were less positive about the effectiveness of government efforts to address these issues, with a majority strongly disagreeing or disagreeing that the government is effectively addressing the impacts of climate change on water resources (55% total). Respondents also did not believe that community efforts are helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change on water resources. The majority (60%) were neutral about increasing access to water resources would improve food security in the region.
