Abstract :Surprisingly, even though Serbia was a part of the Ottoman Empire and Ottoman culture had a tremendous impact on Serbian culture, today Ottoman archaeology and history of art don’t exist as specialized fields of study in the country. This paper examines the reasons for this in order to give a better understanding not only of the present state, but also of the possible future of Ottoman heritage research in Serbia.
