Abstract :Since the signature of the Declaration of Principles between the Palestinian Authority and Israel in 1993 and the agreement popularly known as Oslo II in 1995, the prevailing belief underlying most analysis in the United States has been that the only serious obstacles to peace in the Middle East are Islamic fundamentalism and Palestinian terrorism, both phenomena normally associated with Palestinian stubbornness and lack of seriousness.
