Abstract :Özet 1987-1994 yılları arasında İstanbul Tıp Fakültesi Plas­tik ve Rekonstrüktif Cerrahi Anabilim Dalı Kliniğinde 9 hastaya Iaterognati nedeni ile cerrahi tedavi uygulan­mıştır. Hastaların yaşları 18-25 arasında değişmektey­di. Dikkatli radyografîk değerlendirme patolojiyi sap­tamada ve buna uygun tedavinin seçiminde önemlidir. Mandibular laterognatizmin düzeltilmesi için Obwegeser`in modifiye sagittal split osteotomi ve ektraoral vertikal ramus osteotomi metodları uygulanarak so­nuçlar değerlendirilmiştir. Ortodontik tedavinin rolü çok önemlidir. Ameliyat öncesi ve sonrası 5 hastaya or­todontik tedavi yapılmıştır. Tüm hastalara 7 hafta intermaksiller Fıksasyon uygulanmıştır. Yeterli postope-ratif sonuçlar gözlenmiştir. Anahtar sözcükler: Laterognatizm, fasial asimetri. Abstract 9 cases oflaterognathism have been treated at the Clinic of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of Istanbul Medical Faculty between 1987-1994. Thepatients ages we­re between 18-25. Careful radiographic assessment is im­portant in determining the pathology and the subsequent se­lection of proper treatment. A modification ofObwegeser`s sagittal splitting and extraoral vertical ramus osteotomy methods for the correction of mandibular laterognathism have been performed and the results have been justified. The role of orthodontic treatment was carried out in five pa­tients. All patients had intermaxillary fixation for 7 weeks. A satisfactory postoperative results were observed.
