Abstract :This study investigates the impact of discharge energy levels on EDM drilling of AISI 304L stainless steel using a 1 mm copper electrode. A Taguchi L9 orthogonal array with three replications was employed to systematically evaluate the influence of discharge current, pulse-on time (Ton), and pulse-off time (Toff) on material removal rate (MRR), surface roughness (SR), and overcut (OC), thereby minimizing experimental error. Experiments were conducted on a JS AD-20 EDM drilling machine under constant dielectric pressure and capacitance. The results indicate that discharge current and pulse-on time are the most significant parameters affecting MRR and SR, whereas pulse-off time predominantly influences overcut in deeper hole sections. The optimum condition for maximum MRR (14.34 mm3/min) was achieved at a current of 12 A, Tom of 44 μs, and Toff of 18μs. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) confirmed that current and Ton account for more than 75% of the variance in MRR and SR. These findings provide practical guidelines for optimizing EDM drilling performance in stainless steels, balancing productivity, surface quality, and dimensional accuracy. Keywords : Elektrikli Deşarj Sondaj (EDD), Taguchi Tasarımı, ANOVA, optik profilometri ile yüzey kalitesi
