Determination of Factors Affecting the Readiness of Orthopedic Surgery Patients for Hospital Discharge

Abstract :This study was conducted to determine the discharge readiness of patients undergoing orthopedic surgery and the factors affecting it. This descriptive study was conducted with 125 patients who underwent total hip prosthesis insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(THP); and total knee prosthesis insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(TKP); surgery between October 2019 and March 2020 at a private university hospital in Istanbul. The study’s data were collected using the \`Patient Information Form\` and \`Discharge from Hospital Readiness Scale/Short Form insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(RHDS/SF);\`. The data were analyzed by using number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Mann Whitney-U test, Kruskal Wallis test, and Logistic Regression Analysis in SPSS 25.0 program. It was determined that the mean scores of the HTHÖ/KF scale were higher in patients who thought that the discharge training given was sufficient insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p=0.023); and that they were ready to go home insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p<0.001);, that they could easily walk alone when discharged insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p=0.013); and that they could easily get out of bed/chair insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p=0.004);. It was revealed that the mean of information insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p=0.004); and coping insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p=0.034); sub-dimension scores of patients who had not previously undergone orthopedic surgery were lower than patients without orthopedic surgery experience. This study reveals that orthopedic surgery patients need support in preparation for discharge. In this regard, nurses must take the initiatives to support the preparation of patients for discharge.
