Abstract :Halife/lik kelimesi İngilizler tarafından İngilizceye uyum sağlaması amacıyla farklı şekillerde kullanılmıştır. Dolayısıyla bu farklı kullanım şekilleri arşiv belgelerine ve gazetelerdeki haberlere ulaşmada çeşitli sıkıntılara sebep olmaktadır. Halifelik 3 Mart 1924 tarihinde kaldırıldıktan sonra Abdülmecid Efendi ve ailesine yönelik yakın bir İngiliz takibi olduğu görülmektedir. İngilizler, halife ailesinin Türkiye dışında bir yere yerleşme konusunu adım adım takip edip aile fertlerinin kimler ve kaç kişi olduklarına dair detayları kayıt altına almışlardır. Abdülmecid Efendi ve ailesi önce İsviçre’ye gitmiş, birkaç hafta sonra Fransa’nın Nice kentine yerleşmiştir. 15 yıl Nice’de kalan Abdülmecid Efendi 1939’da Paris’e taşınmış ve ölümüne kadar(1944) da burada yaşamıştır. İngiliz takibi, Abdülmecit Efendi ve ailesi Paris’e yerleştikten sonra da sürmüştür. İngiltere, Paris’teki temsilcilikleri vasıtasıyla Abdülmecid Efendi’nin sağlık durumu ve aile fertlerine ilişkin son bilgileri almaya devam etmiştir. However, the use of different forms of access to archival documents and articles in newspapers causes various troubles.
