Abstract :International migration has climbed up to the top of the global political agenda recently. Globalization and the changing international political climate have given rise to increased migration movements in almost every part of the world. The new migration and refugee patterns now urge all nation-states - sending, transit and receiving countries - to get more involved in global migration management processes. Yet, their primary concern has always been preserving national sovereignty in controlling migration movements to their territories. Although the ratification process is progressing slowly, the International Convention for the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and the Members of their Families from 1990 IRCMW is the most comprehensive and rights-based legal instrument that relaunched norms and standards for safeguarding the human rights of all migrant workers, both regular and undocumented. The recently launched process of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration could enhance global concerted action for a rights-based resolution for current problems of international migration
