The Alternative Approach in Design of Free-Stall Housing for Dairy Cows in Konya

Abstract :The study was carried out to construct the more comfortable housing area for dairy cows in the low temperature re-gion in winter. The breeding customs of farmers in the region and space requirements of animal management groups and development in further was considered in the planning of house. The movement-free for animals in all resting, feeding and outside lot area was based in the design of building. Hence, the barn constituted an unstressed physical environment for dairy cows by using of suitable design of house depend on the animal behavior. Especially, air velocity in outside lot area was controlled by this building design and its climate provided to positive effects on the animal performance. The free-stall barn layout, a capacity of 30 dairy herd, was improved to utilize in Konya or other region with similar climatic conditions.
