Tourism Potential of Çanakkale Province and Diversification

Abstract :Çanakkale is located on two continents-implying a geo-political importance-furnishing various mythological leg-ends and epics of Odysseus and İliada of Homerous with topics; and also with it Troia based on 3000 BC. The city resisted heroically to attacks by external forces in the near past and that makes it even more significant in means of history and cultural aspects of the city, it exhibits a great diversity of ecologic, biologic and natural value, therefore, the potential in tourism also become important. With this research, an inventory has been made about natural, historical and cultural resources that have potential of tourism and, diversification was aimed in tourism activities in Çanakkale Province. At the end of the research, next to the traditional tourism types; cultural tourism, religious tourism, thermal tourism, eco tourism, youth tourism and sport tourism were determined as tourism types which brought diversification in tourism of Çanakkale Province and various proposals were suggested.
