Red Meat Consumption in Turkey: Problems and Suggestions

Abstract :In this study, red meat consumption in Turkey is discussed in terms of population, income level, red meat prices, prices of substitute products and changes in consumer preferences. Problems related to red meat consumption are; livestock sector, red meat processing industry, developments in imports, food safety and preferences. According to the study, consumption of red meat in Turkey is not at the desired level, considering the population structure. The main problem is the high retail prices. To this end, solutions should be developed in a holistic approach to the problems that arise during the red meat supply chain.
