The Effect of Some Environmental Factors on Birth and Weaning Weights and Heritabilities of These Characters in Awassi Sheep

Abstract :In this research, the effects of some environmental factors on birth and weaning weights, and the heritabilities of these characters were estimated by the records from 184 lambs of 14 rams. The heritabilities were determined by paternal halfsib correlation and the records of 1991 were used. The least squares means of birth and weaning weights were found as 4.481±0.067 kg and 26.714±0.525 kg, the heritabilities of same characters were found as 0.056±0.147 and 0.003±0.131, respectively. Effect of dam age was not statistically significant on both characters, however effects of birth type and sex on birth weight were found significant. On the other hand, effects of sex and linear regressions of age of lamb and birth weight were significant on weaning weight.
