The Determination of Some Physical Properties of Corn Kernel

Abstract :The dependence of some physical properties of corn cernel on moisture contents were determined. In samples, moisture contents were changed between 12.8 to 36.7 % as dry base (db). The lenght of grain were changed according to moisture centent, from 9.18 to 14.77 mm, the width from 5.63 to 10.30 mm, the thickness from 3.13 to 6.09 mm, volume of grain from 0.247 to 0.349 cm3, thousand grain mass from 226.30 to 314.56 g. porosity from 18.0 to 35.4%, projected area of grain from 1.345 to 1.775 cm². Friction coefficient of samples were determined for galvanized sheet metal, polywood and rubber surface. The largest value of coefficient friction was found on rubber. Bulk density decreased by increasing moisture contens from 871 to 656 kg/m³.
