Abstract :A study was conducted to determine the effect of adding increasing levels of phytase on performance and amount of retained phosphorus in body of broiler chicks fed diet containing lower phosphorus. Thus creating 6 treatments in randomized plot design were used with two replicates of ten birds each. The research lasted three weeks and total of 120 day-old, unsexed broiler chicks (Ross-1) were used in the research. When 1000 units phytase was added to diet containing 0.46% phosphorus, body weight, weight gain, feed consumption and retained phosphorus in body were significantly increased in comparison to those fed diet without phytase (P<0.01) and also feed/gain ratio was also increased but not significantly. Performance characteristics and retained phosphorus in body with this group were comparable with diets containing 0.76 and 0.61% phosphorus. Phosphorus levels in the feces of groups that were fed diets with phytase were decreased about 56 % than those of the groups fed diet containing 0.76% phosphorus.
