Effect of Plant Spacing on Yield and Quality of Aliso and Pocahontas Strawberry Cultivars

Abstract :This research was carried out to determine the effects of five different plant spacings (40x20, 40x30, 40x40, 40x50 and 40X60cm) on yield and quality of Aliso and Pocahontas strawberry cultivars in Erzurum conditions in 1994 to 1996. The results of this study showed that spacing had significant effects on yield, frutt weight of per plant, fruit size and fruit quality. In both cultivars, the highest yields were obtained for 40x20 cm spacing and yields decreased with increasing spacing. However, yield of per plant, fruit size and percentage of the first quality fruits increased with increasing spacings. There was a positive correlation between spacing. yield and percentage of the culled fruits, and a negative correlation between spacing, frull size and percentage of the first quality fruit.
