Effects of Sources and Application Time of Nitrogen Fertilizer on Yield and Yield Components of “Gerek 79` Bread Wheat Variety in Konya Conditions

Abstract :This trial was conducted to determine suitable sources and application time of nitrogen fertilizer for winter wheat variety \\\"Gerek 79\\\" in 1992- 93 and 1993-94 in Konya conditions. Ammonium sulphate (AS), ammonium nitrate (AN), and urea were used as a N sources. Diammonium phosphate was used as a main fertilizer at sowing (2.5 kg/da N and 6 kg/da P205), the rest nitrogen was applied at sowing or at early spring as ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate and urea. The effects of treatment on grain yield, head number m-2, seed number and weight per head, 1000 grain weight and plant height were investigated. The effect of N sources on grain yield was significant in 1993-94, on head number m-2 was significant in both years. According to the means of two- year results, application of ammonium nitrate gave the highest grain yield. The effect of application time of nitrogen on grain yield and head number m-2 were significant in 1993-94. According to the means of two- year results, when nitrogen was splited into two parts and applied (2.5 kg N/da at sowing and 3.5 kg Nyda at early spring) it was obtained more grain yield and head number m-2 than once applied.
