Investigation on Yield and Yield Components of Some Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) Cultivars under Konya Ecological Conditions

Abstract :This research was conducted to determine the yield and yield components of some safflower cultivars under Konya arid conditions in 1993. This research was arranged in the \\\"Randomized Blocks\\\" experimental design with four replications. Totally 6 safflower samples which were \\\"Yenice\\\", \\\"Dinçer\\\", \\\"5-154-2\\\", \\\"Oleicleed\\\" cultivars, \\\"E-10\\\" cultivar candi- date and a \\\"population\\\" were used as the experimental materials. The results of the research mean from cultivars were as follows: Seed and oil yield per da 147.12-208.60 kg and 43.53-71.74 kg, respectively. Plant height, number of secondary branches per plant, number of heads per plant, number of seed per head and thousand seed weight ranged from 91.54-119.36 cm, 7.06-8.42, 13.39-19.76, 23.54-29.51, 29.77-41.74 g, respectively. It was found that hull ratio, oil ratio of hulled seed and oil ratio of seed ranged from 41.32-49.61%, 51.69-61.06% and 26.05-35.28%, respectively.
