Abstract :With the aim of breeding tetraploid families for the use in the production of hybrid varieties at Sugar Institute, F₁ and F₂ seeds were produced in 1996 by random mixing of the seeds obtained from four different sources. Each stage of seed production was carried out under heamp isolations through random pollinations. In 1998, those F2 progenies having well-developed and dense-seed branches, and abundant amounts of pollens were selected and their seeds were then harvested separately. In this study; root yield, sugar content (digestion), Na, K and a-amino N values were determined, extractable sugar content and sugar yield per hectar were calculated. Based on the results of the experiments, 20 progeny were selected to be used for the production of families by carrying out new progeny testings over the next getterations. Keywords : Şeker pancarı, tetraploid, kromozom, döl, döl testi
