Abstract :John Locke, bir çok konuda olduğu gibi, eğitim konusunda da son derece önemli düşünceler ileri sürmüştür. Locke, kendi felsefi sistemine de bağlı kalarak bilginin zihinden değil, duyum ve deneyimlerden kazanıldığını kabul eder. Buna göre eğitimde, somut, pratik ve empirik olana yönelme esas olandır. Bu bağlamda eğitimin amacı, deneyimin öğrenilmesi ve bu sayede mutluluğun gerçekleştirilmesi olmalıdır. Locke’a göre bunu elde etmenin yolu ise sağlıklı ve sağlam bir bedene ve zihne sahip olmakla mümkündür.
