Abstract :Sanayilesme, kentlesme ve ekonomik faaliyet kollarında meydana gelen değisim süreci, tüm dünyada olduğu gibi ülkemizde de, nüfusun gelisimi, dağılısı ve bir takım özelliklerinde belirgin bir dönüsüme yol açmıstır. Bu süreçten en fazla etkilenen illerden birisi de Rize olmustur. Gerek tarihi süreç içinde ve gerekse günümüzde, bulunduğu bölgenin ve ülkemizin önemli nüfus birikim alanlarından birisi olan Rize ilinin, dinamik bir nüfus profili sergilediği görülmektedir. Rize il nüfusunun Cumhuriyet dönemindeki gelisimi, coğrafi dağılısı, yas ve cinsiyet yapısı ile göç olaylarının ele alındığı bu çalısmada; ilin nüfus yapısının bölge ve ülkemizdeki yerinin ortaya konulması hedeflenmistir. Đdari sınırlar içindeki esitsiz dağılısı ile dikkat çeken il nüfusunu etkileyen coğrafi etmenler ele alınarak, ilin genel nüfus özellikleri ortaya konulmaya çalısılmıstır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Rize, nüfus, nüfus dağılısı, demografik özellikler, göçler.   Abstract: The process of changing in industrialization, urbanization and economic activities has caused a significant transformation in the development, distribution, and certain characteristics of population in Turkey as well as in the whole world. One of the cities mostly affected from this process has been Rize. It is seen that Rize which is one of the most important population accumulation areas of the region and Turkey, both throughout the history and today, has showed a dynamic population profile. In this study by which the development, geographical distribution, age and gender structure and certain migration events of the population of Rize were investigated, it was aimed to introduce the place of the population structure of this city in both the region and the whole country. The geographical factors affecting the city population, which shows an unbalanced distribution within the administrative borders, were investigated and it was tried to present the general population characteristics of it.
