Abstract :Modern dönemle birlikte devletler, mesruiyetlerini ve kimliklerini homojen olan veya varsayılan ulus olgusundan almaya baslamıslardır. Ulus ise her devletin önünde öylece duran bir kategori değildi. Bundan dolayı ulus-devletler sınırları içersindeki farklılıkları belirli bir ulus kategorisine dönüstürmek için var olan tüm imkânlarını seferber etmislerdi. Fakat 1960’lardan sonra hız kazanan postmodern kavrayıs, bu kategoriye itirazı getirmis, ulusun bir alt kategorisi olarak algılanan etnisiteleri ön plana çıkarmıstır. Bu durum ise mevcut oturmus algılayısları sarsmıs ve çatısmalara neden olmustur. Bu çalısmada ifade edilen gerilim ortaya konulmaya çalısılmıstır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Modernite, postmodernite, etnisite, kimlik   Absract: With the beginning of modern age, states stated to take their legal status and identity from homogenous or figürative nation. Nation, on the other hand, was not the same category for each state. That is nation states made use of all facitities to turn diffrences into a particular nation within their borders. However, postmodern understanding, gaining momentum from 60s onward, made objections to this category; and brought ethnicity as a sub-branch of nation to the forefront. This condition challenged the existing consideration and caused conflicts. This study takes into account the above-mentioned tension. Key Words: Modernity, postmodernity, ethnicity, identity
