Abstract :Özet: Ülkemizde eğitim alanında yapılan son reform çalışmaları, ilk ve orta dereceliokulların müfredatlarının bilişsel ve yapılandırmacı öğrenme kuramlarına göre uygulanmasınıöngörmektedir. Öğrenmeyi gözlenebilir ve ölçülebilir davranışlardan çok zihinselişlem ve süreçler açısından açıklayan bu kuramlar, kavramsal ve anlamlı öğrenmeninüzerine vurgu yapar. Anlamlı öğrenmenin gerçekleşmesinde kavramların büyük bir rolüvardır çünkü kavramlar bilişsel yapının temel yapı taşlarını oluştururlar ve insanlarındünyayı algılamalarını, yaşadıkları tecrübeleri anlamlandırmalarını ve yeni durumlarailişkin genellemeler yapmalarını sağlayarak öğrenme sürecini kolaylaştırırlar. Bu çalışmada,kavramların temel özellikleri, kavram öğrenme ve öğretme süreci ve öğretimdefarklı amaçlar doğrultusunda kullanılabilme potansiyeline sahip olan kavram haritalarıaçıklanmaktadır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Kavramlar, Kavram Öğrenme, Kavram Öğretme, Kavram Haritaları,Anlamlı Öğrenme Abstract: Recent educational reform initiatives in Turkey demand that elementary andsecondary schools' curricular programs be put into practice in accordance with cognitiveand constructivist learning theories. These theories which explain learning in terms ofinternal cognitive processes rather than externally observable and measurable behaviorsemphasize the importance of conceptual and meaningful learning. Concepts play a key rolin meaningful learning because they are the building blocks of one's cognitive structure.As such, they facilitate the process of learning by helping people perceive their world,construct meaning out of life experiences and make generalizations into new situations.This study aims to elucidate the characteristic features of concepts, the teaching andlearning of concepts, and the use of concept maps in different phases of curriculum andinstruction.Key Words: Concepts, Concept Learning, Concept Teaching, Concept Maps, Meaningful Learning
