Abstract :Osmanlı Tarihinin meşhur komutanlanndan olan Gazi Osman Paşa, 1833'te Tokafta doğmuş ve 5 Nisan 1900'de İstanbul'da vefat etmiştir. İlk defa 1853-1856 Osmanlı- Rus Harbinde subay olarak katılan Osman Bey, memleketin birçok yerinde çeşitli görevlerde bulunmuş, 1877-78 Harbi'nde Ruslara karşı Plevne'de kazandığı zaferlerle tarihe geçmiştir. Yerli- yabancı subay ve gazetecilerin üzerinde hemfikir oldukları nokta, Onun sadece değerli bir komutan olmak değil, insani vasıflarla da dünyanın takdirini kazanmış olmasıdır. Nitekim Plevne'deki başanları ile harp tarihinde yeni bir sayfa açan Paşa, güzel ve adaletli idaresi ile orduda ve Plevne'deki müslim ve gayrimUslim halk arasında büyük bir itibar kazanmıştır. Esaretinde bile devletinin onur ve şerefini en kutsal değerler olarak korumaya çalışmış, bu haliyle de Rus Çarı ve yüksek kademeli komutanların takdirini kazanmıştır. Üstün hizmetleri ülkede ve Padişah II. Abdülhamid nezdinde de büyük mernnuniyete vesile olduğundan "Gazi"lik ünvanı yanında birçok değerli nişanlar verilmek suretiyle mükafatlandırılmıştır.   ABSTRACT One of the famous commanders of the Attornan History, Gazi Osman Pasha was bom in Tokat in 1833 and died in Istanbul on 5 Apri1 1900. Taking place in the Ottoman-Russian Battle in 18531856 for the first time, Osman Bey was charged with a number of duties in the various parts of the country and became a name of historic significance upon the victories he won in Plevne against the Russian armies in 1877-1878 wars. What the natiye and foreign historians and the commanders and joumalists who personally took place in the war agree about is that Osman Bey is noted not only as a great commander but also as a humanitarian person. In addition to his epoch-making achievements in Plevne, he gained the respect and love of the MusJims and Non-Muslims thanks to his just and admirable ru1e. Even when he strugg1ed to protect the honour and name of the state as the most sacred va1ues, which brought popularity and respectability among the Russian Tsar and commanders. He was granted the title of "GaZI"' an account of his invaluable services to the Attornan Empire; Abdülhamid Ilaıso honoured him with a number oftitles.
