Design Change Delays in Oman’s Construction Industry: Challenges and Mitigation Strategies

Abstract :Delays in construction projects are a common obstacle to Oman\\\'s construction sector. These challenges result in longer construction project timeframes and other unfavorable outcomes. One of the main causes of construction delays has also been shown to be variables connected to design changes. Finding and examining design modification elements that significantly contribute to construction delays in Oman is the main goal of this study. A thorough analysis of the literature was used to identify 77 general characteristics that cause delays as well as 73 elements relevant to design. A survey questionnaire was created using the top ten design change key variables and sent to Oman\\\'s constructing industry stakeholders. The purpose of the questionnaire was to gather information from Oman\\\'s construction industry stakeholders regarding the perceived impact and frequency of the ten design change variables. This study\\\'s Average Relative Importance Index (AVRII) research identified the main causes of project delays in Oman as being design errors, client-initiated changes, inadequate planning and scheduling. This study suggests mitigation measures based on the research findings. These techniques include better communication between design teams and stakeholders, project planning, and design review. This research offers insightful information for academic authors and industry experts looking to improve project outcomes and decrease construction delays in Oman\\\'s construction sector.
