Abstract :Gothic literature has had a unique place among literary genres since the 18th century. It has developed as a tradition that evokes strong emotional reactions in the reader with its unique elements. The basis of this genre is comprised of elements such as the fears hidden in the subconscious of man, the tragic experiences of individuals excluded from society or nature, the threatening and isolating structures of space, and the anxiety created by the unknown. These structural features of Gothic literature have transferred to horror cinema and become a rich resource for filmmakers in terms of aesthetics, narrative and psychology. Horror cinema aims to leave a more profound and lasting impact on the audience by combining these elements of gothic literature with visual and auditory techniques. This study will examine how the essential elements of gothic literature are reinterpreted in the context of horror cinema and how these elements are conveyed in a cinematic form. In particular, the film The Others (2001) will analyse how the gothic atmosphere is conveyed to the audience through cinema and how gothic literature elements support the characters\\\' psychological journeys.
