Abstract :During the coursc of prehistoric researches which I made in the Hatay province in May and June, 1958, on bchalf of the Turkish Historical Society,1 I collected ncw Palacolithic tools at Altındcrc insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Avratlar deresi);2 and made a test cxcavation in a cavc ncar the village of Mağracık in Samandağ. During the coursc of this fıeld work Dr. Oğuz Erol, Doçent of Physical Geography and Geology in the University of Ankara, accompanied me for avvhile and vvorked on the geology of this region. THE TEST EXCAVATION MADE IN THE PLUGGED CAVE NEAR THE VİLLAGE OF MAĞRACIK During the coursc of this trip I made a test cxcavation in a new cave which stands about 83 meters abovc the present-day sea level insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(see Pis. I and II);. This cave which I havc named Tıkalı Mağara insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Pluggcd Cave); has been filled elose up to the ceiling with rubble
